Jordan, Neil
   b. 1950, County Sligo (Ireland)
   Film-maker
   Born in 1950, Jordan started as a writer moving on to script consultant on Excalibur (1981) before his directing debut, the impressive Angel (1982), a thriller set within the context of the troubles in Northern Ireland. Other films include Company of Wolves (1984) with its contemporary and adult treatment of a fairy tale, Mona Lisa (1986) and We’re No Angels (1989). He returned to Irish-related issues in 1988 with High Spirits, The Crying Game (1992), a romantic thriller and the drama The Miracle (1991) although their treatment of his native Ireland was far less serious and more whimsical than either Angel or the controversial and critically acclaimed Michael Collins (1996) the romantic cinebiography of the legendary Irish leader.
